American disc jockey Wolfman Jack (born Robert Weston Smith) came to the general public’s attention in the 1973 film American Graffiti and as the announcer for the television rock concert series, The Midnight Special.

His own Howl Productions company co-produced The Wolfman Jack Show with the CBC in Vancouver.

The show – broadcast from a mock radio studio – featured foreign performers as well as Canadian musical artists, such as The Stampeders and Bachman-Turner Overdrive, and was intended to give Canadian artists an avenue into an international market.

Guests included Little Richard, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Johnny Rivers, The Shirelles, ABBA, Del Shannon, Bobby Rydell, Bo Diddley, Chubby Checker, The Fifth DimensionTom Jones, Fabian, Melissa Manchester, Manhattan Transfer, Wayne Newton, Jose Feliciano and Ray Stevens.

Also featured were regular performances by the Famous People Players (a black-light puppet troupe); comedy with Danny Wells, Peter Cullen, and Sally Sales, and Vivian the Wonder Mule (voice by Peter Cullen).
