Filmed in Canada for American cable channel TNT and based on the comic of the same name, this series follows the adventures of NYPD detective Sara Pezzini (Yancy Butler), the bearer of the Witchblade.

The Witchblade – a powerful supernatural gauntlet with a will of its own – has existed since the dawn of time and chooses from each generation the right person to merge with.

Six episodes into the second season, Butler checked herself into rehab for an alcohol problem. “We wish her all the best,” said the producers, as the set shut down in Toronto.

Butler returned after a month and resumed shooting, but, despite strong ratings, the network decided to call a halt to proceedings. Inevitably, fans blamed the actress’s brush with the bottle for the cancellation, although producers denied it.
