Touch of the Norman Vaughans, A – Nostalgia Central

1 9 6 4 (UK)
12 x 30 minute episodes

Following his elevation to stardom as presenter of the weekly Variety show Sunday Night At The London Palladium, Liverpool-born comic Norman Vaughan was given his own networked ITV series by way of compensation for handing over the Palladium gig to Bruce Forsyth.

There were guest acts each week – including Dusty Springfield, Arthur Askey, Millicent Martin, Dickie Valentine, Kathy Kirby, Matt Monro, Russ Conway and Jackie Trent – and plenty of opportunities for Norman to repeat his “swinging” and “dodgy” catchphrases to the studio audience and viewers at home.

Norman was accompanied by Jack Parnell and his Orchestra and the Irving Davies Dancers.

The ATV-produced show was originally planned for six editions but was extended to 12 and aired on Friday nights between 3 January and 27 March 1964.
