Top Numbers – Nostalgia Central

1 9 5 7 – 1 9 5 9  (UK)

ABC’s Top Numbers offered viewers a continuous stream of the day’s most popular hits, brought to life by vocalists such as Steve Martin and Maureen Kershaw. Musical accompaniment was provided by a rotation of well-known orchestras led by Dennis Ringrowe, Malcolm Lockyer, Geoff Love, or Joe Loss.

Dance routines, which added visual flair to the performances, were choreographed by talents such as Lionel Blair.

One standout episode of the series featured performances by both Marty Wilde and the Big Bopper – making it a particularly memorable broadcast.

For a time, Top Numbers aired in alternate weeks with a similarly styled programme, Top Tune Time.

Although the format was comparable, Top Tune Time employed a distinct approach to music selection. Rather than following the record charts, it based its content on sheet music sales, bucking the trend of chart-focused programming.

This show featured performances by Jack Parnell & His Orchestra, as well as appearances from Ken Morris and Joan Savage.
