Host Vince Hill was joined by Alyn Ainsworth and his Orchestra and song and dance troupe The Young Generation in this Sunday evening BBC2 series celebrating musical artists who had sold a million records.

Between songs, Vince delivered brief, journalistic commentary outlining the history and sales statistics behind the music being celebrated.

The featured musical acts included Neil Sedaka, Cliff Richard, Dusty Springfield, Sandie Shaw, Lulu, Gene Pitney, The Searchers (pictured below right), John Denver, The Drifters, The Supremes, Peter Noone of Herman’s Hermits, The Rockin’ Berries, Slade, Gilbert O’Sullivan, The New Seekers, and Johnny Nash.

The BBC repurposed the title They Sold a Million in 2013 for a new series of (unrelated) retrospective music documentaries.
