Telecomics (The NBC Comics) – Nostalgia Central

1 9 4 9 – 1 9 5 1 (USA)

This series of non-animated comic strips from NBC (some of the earliest cartoon shows on television) were simply static comic book images viewed and narrated panel by panel.

The series was initially syndicated by Vallee-Video (owned by singer Rudy Vallee) in 1949 as a 15-minute show composed of four three-minute segments: Joey and Jug, Sa-Lah, Brother Goose, and Rick Rack, Secret Agent.

The strips were voiced by Jack Kirkwood, Lilien Leigh and Bill Grey.

From September 1950 to March 1951, the show was broadcast on NBC as The NBC Comics and featured Danny March (the story of the personal privte eye to the mayor of Metro City), Johnny and Mr. Do-Right (adventures shared by a young boy and his talking dog, who teaches him about health and safety), Kid Champion (the story of budding musician Eddie Hale who relinquishes his dream to become a boxer to please his prize-fighter father, who has only a short time to live) and Space Barton (featuring the adventures of Horace Barton Jr, a former pilot with the US Army Air Corps during World War II and now a space traveller to Mars “and beyond”).

These strips were voiced by Bob Bruce, Pat NcGeehan, Howard McNear, Verne Smith and Lurene Tuttle.

After the NBC show was cancelled, the existing episodes were distributed in syndication as Telecomics through the end of the 1950s.
