This children’s television series from the Australian Broadcasting Commission was based on a book by Australian author, Eugene Lumbers.

The Byrne family – Dermot (Ron Graham), his wife Meg (Sheila Bradley) and their children Diana (Sally Conabere), Harry (Gary Gray) and Michael (Johnny Williams) – live on what remains of a once-prominent stud farm called ‘Blue Ribbons’.

As a boy, Dermot decided to renovate Blue Ribbons to its original glory after its decline in the hands of his father, who gambled heavily.

He is still far from his ambition but runs the property as a successful riding school despite being continually plagued by financial difficulties.

A sequel – Lucky Colour Blue – followed in 1975.
