This Children’s Film Foundation (CFF) production (their first foray into science fiction) has a baby alien named Meba arriving from Venus and meeting some children at a boarding school.
Sumac (Marcia Monolescue) and Greta (Gillian Harrison) have been left behind for the holidays at the end of term because their parents live too far away.
Adolphus (Andrew Motte-Harrison) and Rodney (Fella Edmonds) are the Headmaster’s sons.
Meba (an owl-eyed puppet in a hijab) can turn into a small (animated) flying saucer at will. But the kids discover that their new friend can make their wishes come true, too.
Unfortunately, he is not accustomed to the ways of earthmen and fetches a million pounds from the Bank of England to pay their fares home for the hols.
A gang of crooks – led by Raymond Rollett as “Number One” – hears of this (from the school caretaker, Mr Pole) and they kidnap Meba. The children track them down, rescue Meba, and collect the reward money for catching the gang of villains.
So now Sumac and Greta get to go home for the hols, and Meba returns to Venus.
The story was written by Frank Wells (son of H.G) and turned into a script by Dallas Bower.
