Created and written by former Z Cars co-creator Allan Prior, Stookie was extremely gritty for a Sunday afternoon children’s series, with streetwise Stookie Doyle and his bird-watching chums trying their best to keep out of the way of Glasgow gang leader ‘Big’ Harper (Leonard O’Malley) and PC Hendrie (Stuart Hepburn).

They all ultimately end up caught up in a robbery carried out by international art thieves.

Allan Prior’s daughter, Maddy (the vocalist from Steeleye Span) sang the title song with her then-husband Rick Kemp.
