This American dramatic anthology series had actually begun life on CBS radio in 1941.

Sponsored by the Armour meat-packing corporation, the NBC television show began on 6 September 1950 with the episode ‘Beauty is a Joy’ starring Mary Stuart. The following week’s episode (‘Grady Everett for the People’) was the first professionally paid script ever written by Rod Serling, the legendary creator of The Twilight Zone.

The series was filmed (not aired live) and was the first television production of Revue Productions, who went on to create iconic shows like Leave It to Beaver, Wagon Train, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

The final episode (‘Conqueror’s Isle’) aired in August 1951.

The show was re-aired in syndication as Famous Playhouse.

Several scripts and storylines from Stars Over Hollywood were later recycled for Hollywood Opening Night (1951 – 1953).
