A consistently fine BBC2 series that took archive (mostly documentary and newsreel) footage and overdubbed it with comic dialogue performed by gifted voice artists.
The short, relatively inexpensive programmes – which came from an idea on The Rory Bremner Show – were strongly satirical in tone, often commenting on current affairs and royal matters.
A short 1991 special (‘The Staggering Story Of Lime Grove’) utilised footage from the earliest days of British television and was presented as part of a day-long tribute to the BBC’s Lime Grove studio, marking its closure.
