Playboard Puppets, the creators of the highly successful children’s favourite, Button Moon, returned with the ITV children’s series The Spooks of Bottle Bay, featuring wacky spectres who lived in a town in an old bottle kept on a mantlepiece.

Throughout the town of Bottle Bay lurked spooks of all shapes and sizes.

When daylight faded, sheets and blankets emerged to reveal a mischievous community of spooks who squeezed through keyholes and cracks in walls to haunt and taunt their neighbours – primarily the nasty estate agents, Sybil and Cedric Sludge.

Other characters included slow-witted Sid Sludge and his loyal dog, Maxwell; Fred, Sally and Baby Spook from the House on the Hill; Tommy and Daffy Spook from the SeaView Guest House; Damask the spooky highwayman, and Captain Patch and his pirate crew of Shabby Sheets who sailed the seven seas aboard their spooky galleon, the good ship Mermaid Molly.

The characters came from the lively imagination of writer Ian Allen – who developed his talent for creating such vivid ideas in his head to compensate for his dyslexia.
