Son of Robin Hood, The (1958) – Nostalgia Central

In a bid to stop the power-hungry Duke Simon Des Roches (David Farrar) seizing the English throne from the rightful heir (a boy prince), Robin Hood’s loyal men decide to reform ten years after his death and seek out his son, Deering, to lead them.

Complications arise when his son returns from Spain and turns out to be a daughter (June Laverick).

To maintain the illusion of a male leader, a handsome young man named Jamie (future Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea star David Hedison, billed here as Al Hedison) – the brother of the King’s Regent – masquerades as Robin’s son, while Deering fights alongside him in disguise to defeat the Duke.

Filmed in Britain with a largely British cast, the swashbuckling movie rejoices in some delightfully overplayed cameos from such stalwarts as Marius Goring, David Farrar and Humphrey Lestocq.

American director George Sherman was best known for his prolific work in Hollywood Westerns.
