Written by Armando Iannucci, Peter Baynham, David Schneider, Kevin Cecil and Andy Riley, this topical and idiosyncratic BBC comedy series premiered on 24 June 1995.

Recurring features included a puppet of the soon-to-be Prime Minister (known as “Mr Tony Blairs”), “Hunt The Old Lady”, a group of Princess Diana lookalikes, who would suddenly turn up and try to comfort people, and a manufactured boy band called The Dummies.

Other cast members included Sally Phillips, Vicki Pepperdine, Kevin Eldon, Omid Djalili, Sue Perkins, Al Murray, Steve Pemberton, Mel Giedroyc, Simon Pegg, Steve Coogan, Jo Brand, and Phil Jupitus.

The show also aired as The Friday Night Armistice, The Christmas Night Armistice, and Last Friday Night’s Armistice (during repeat runs).
