2 x 30 minute episodes
One of the shortest-lived prime-time series in American television history, this CBS sitcom lasted only two episodes (which aired on 1st and 8th April 1987) – as did Take Five, the unfortunate show which premiered immediately after it.
It was set at the studios of WNYV-TV, a tiny, low-budget UHF television station in Manhattan, where Roxie Brinkerhoff (Andrea Martin, hailing from the Canadian comedy factory SCTV) held down the fort as the program director.
Barely able to afford to stay on the air, WNYV filled the gaps with shows like The Magic Butcher, Trout Fishing with Earl, Exercise with the Plotniks and the Larry the Lizard Show. The station’s motto was “Average programming for the average viewer”.
Other personnel at the station included station manager Leon Buchanan (Jack Riley) – who also doubled as Larry the lizard on the aforementioned children’s show (on which Roxie played Miss Mousy), secretary Marcie McKinley (Teresa Ganzel), engineer Vito Carteri (Ernie Sabella) and gofer Randy Grant (Jerry PavIon).
Mitchell Laurance played Roxie’s teacher husband, Michael.
