Poppees – Nostalgia Central

Poppees came together in New York City in 1973 around a nucleus of Arthur Alexander (guitar, vocals), Paddy Lorenzo (bass, vocals) and Bob Waxman (drums, guitar, vocals).

Greg Shaw signed them to Bomp! and released demos of the self-penned If She Cries and the Lennon & McCartney-penned Cilla Black hit The Love Of The Loved in 1975, before they added drummer Jett Harris for a second round of recordings produced by The Flamin’ Groovies‘ Cyril Jordan.

Sadly, the group couldn’t find a home for their anachronistic Merseybeat-heavy sound and broke up before a pairing of Jealousy and Little Richard‘s She’s Got It.

Ironically, the group broke up in the Autumn of 1976, just months before the arrival of the thriving new wave and power pop scenes, in which they probably would have thrived.

Following the demise of the Poppees, singer, songwriter and guitarist Arthur Alexander and drummer Jett Harris formed the exciting pop-driven Sorrows. The band received accolades and released two albums that are now collector’s items.
