At an exclusive military academy on Sabre Island off the California coast, rich young delinquents think money puts them above the law.

Steve Conway (Mickey Rooney) arrives at the school to investigate the mysterious death of his estranged son, who he has been told died in an accident four months ago.

Steve is met with hostility by the school’s commandant, Major Redfern Kelly (Dan Duryea), and the latter’s sweetheart-secretary, Jennifer Evans (Terry Moore).

He is also intimidated by the cadet drill instructor, Vince Perley (Christopher Dark), and PE instructor Sgt. Hack Marlow (Richard Jaeckel).

Attempts are made on Steve’s life by a trio of cadets – Billy Jack Barnes (popular singer Conway Twitty), Bud Starkweather (young singing idol Jimmy Boyd) and Charlie-Boy Cable (Harold Lloyd Jr) – known collectively as “the three beasts”.

There’s also a speedboat chase through shark-infested waters.

Steve makes a startling discovery when he talks to his son’s former roommate, orphan ‘Crip’ Hastings (Warren Berlinger).

Filmed mainly on location on Catalina Island, the movie was released in some markets as Trouble At Sixteen and Rich, Young and Deadly.
