Natalie Imbruglia – Nostalgia Central

Australian actress and singer Natalie Imbruglia was born in February 1975 in Sydney. She appeared in several Australian TV commercials as a child and left school at 16 to pursue acting as a career. She gained fame in the early 1990s for her role as Beth Brennan in the soap opera Neighbours.

After leaving the series, she relocated to the UK to pursue a music career. Her 1997 debut single – a cover of Ednaswap’s Torn – became a global hit, topping the US Billboard Radio Songs Chart for eleven weeks in 1998 and earning recognition as one of the “50 Best Songs of the 1990s” by Rolling Stone.

Imbruglia’s debut album, Left of the Middle (1997), was commercially successful, achieving multi-platinum status in the US, UK, and Australia, with sales of seven million copies worldwide. Subsequent albums, including White Lilies Island (2001) and Counting Down the Days (2005), did not perform as well.

As of 2021, Imbruglia had released six studio albums and won eight ARIA Awards, two Brit Awards, one Billboard Music Award, one Silver Clef Award, and three Grammy nominations.

She also appeared in films such as Johnny English (2003) and the Australian indie film Closed for Winter (2009) and modelled for brands including L’Oreal, Gap, and Kailis.

Imbruglia married Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns on New Year’s Eve 2003. They announced their divorce on 4 January 2008. She became a naturalised British citizen in 2013.
