Musikladen – Nostalgia Central

1 9 7 2 – 1 9 8 4 (West Germany)
90 x 45/60 minute episodes

Musikladen (“music store”) replaced Beat Club as the premier music show on West German television in December 1972. Produced by Radio Bremen, the series was hosted by former Beat Club hostess, Uschi Nerke, and Manfred Sexauer.

Also held over from Beat Club were the dancers known as The Go-Go Girls – Monika, Sally and Sylvia (with Angelika replacing Sylvia in December 1979).

Each show featured a number of live performances by bands and musical artists, with music videos added alongside them in the 1980s.

Uschi Nerke left the show in September 1978, with Sexauer hosting by himself until August 1979, when he was joined by “Auwa” (August-Walter Thiemann).

He left on 15 January 1981, and Sexauer handled the hosting duties alone again until June 1984, when he was joined by Christine Röthig, who co-hosted with him until the show ended on 29 November 1984.

Amongst the artists who appeared on the show in its 12-year run were Slade, The Sweet, ABBA, The Doobie Brothers, Medicine Head, America, Traffic, Spooky Tooth, Status Quo, Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, The Osmonds, Shakin’ Stevens, Stevie Wonder, Dr Hook, Sha Na Na, Roxy Music, Pussycat, Darts, Boney M, Judge Dread, The Motels, Blondie, The Ramones, and The New York Dolls.
