Lucky Colour Blue – Nostalgia Central

1 9 7 5 (Australia)
10 x 30 minute episodes

This 10-part series from the Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABN-2) – a sequel to A Taste for Blue Ribbons (1973) – was a warm-hearted story about the Byrne family and its varying fortunes.

The Byrnes had owned the Blue Ribbon property – complete with a riding school – since the 1840s. The present owner, Dermot (Max Meldrum), was determined that the property would stay in the family, despite pressing financial difficulties.

He pinned his hopes on race horses he had acquired and trained, particularly the thoroughbred Blue Ribbons.

Another horse, Field Day, was the favourite of his daughter, Diana (Sally Conabere).

Lucky Colour Blue was adapted for television by Monte Miller and Virginia Duigan from a 1975 novel by Eugene Lumbers.
