Life and Times of Eddie Roberts – Nostalgia Central

1 9 8 0 (USA)
65 x 30 minute episodes

Premiering on 7 January 1980, Renny Temple starred in this half-hour nightly syndicated soap opera-style comedy series as Eddie Roberts, an assistant professor of anthropology scrambling for tenure at Cranepool University, a small California college.

His wife, Dolores (Udana Power), was an aspiring major-league ball player. Their young daughter, Chrissy, was played by Allison Balson.

Eddie was failing to satisfy his wife sexually; unwittingly became a guinea pig in a secret test for a new experimental male contraceptive drug conducted by Dr Zindell (Annie O’Donnell), and was constantly doing battle with the power company, which kept shutting off his electricity because he hadn’t paid his bill (which ought to be $19.11 but was continually printed erroneously by a computer as $1,911.00).

Other regular characters included Eddie’s faculty colleague Tony Cranepool (Stephen Parr); Dean Knitzer (Allen Case); Lydia Cranepool Knitzer (Joan Hotchkis); Vivian Blanquette (Loyita Chapel); Boggs (Jon Lormer); and Eddie’s old college buddy and carpet salesman, Turner LeQuattro (Daryl Roach).

Ann Marcus (a major creative force behind Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman) and her husband, Ellis, created and wrote the series.
