This animated version of the Robert Louis Stevenson story Treasure Island from ITV had a four-legged twist. All the characters were represented as animals.

Produced by the same team at Central TV that made The Wombles and Paddington Bear, this adaptation featured a feast of famous names voicing the lead roles.

Inspired by the tales of his father, cheeky young pup Jim Hawkins (voiced by Dawn French in the first series and John Hasler in the 1995 episodes) sets out to find the treasure hidden by Captain Flint to save it from the evil pirates under the captaincy of sly old fox Long John Silver (voiced by Richard E. Grant in the 1993 episodes and Rob Brydon in the second series).

Jim is accompanied in his adventures by his cat girlfriend, Jane (voiced initially by Juliet Stevenson and then by Corinna Powlesland), old sea dog Captain Smollett (Red Dwarf and The Brittas Empire star Chris Barrie), bumbling turkey Squire Trelawney (voiced by Hugh Laurie), and level-headed goat Dr Livesey (Robert Powell).

In a massive departure from the original novel, Long John Silver descends into Hell and must bargain with the Devil to avoid spending all eternity in the underworld.
