Kadoyng (1972) – Nostalgia Central

This Children’s Film Foundation (CFF) film sees an alien named Reject 462 (Leo Maguire, who also wrote the film) arrive in the picturesque, sleepy village of Byway from the planet Stoikal.

Reject 462 appears human, except for a small antenna that protrudes from his head, enabling him to influence people’s thoughts and actions and transport inanimate objects.

The building of a new motorway threatens the pastoral calm of the village, and Professor Balfour (Gerald Sim) and his three children  – Billy (Adrian Hall), Lucy (Teresa Codling) and Barney (David Williams) – are attempting to rally the villagers in opposition to the bullying developer, Mr Fritton (Bill Owen), and the government minister he has in tow (Dennis Ramsden).

Reject 462 (the children call him “Kadoyng”) decides to help, and eventually sabotages the motorway by turning the land into a watery bog.

The exterior shots of Byway were filmed in Denham, Buckinghamshire. Kadoyng’s spacesuit and spaceship interior props are leftovers from Gerry Anderson’s UFO TV series, which had finished filming at Pinewood the year before.
