Johnny Holliday – Nostalgia Central

Holliday (born John Holliday Bobbitt on 15 October 1937) started in radio in small markets like Perry, Georgia, before landing a job at WHK in Cleveland, where he quickly established himself as a premier rock-and-roll DJ between 1959 and 1963.

He moved to WINS in New York City in 1964 to work alongside legendary DJ Murray the K. Holliday played the very last music record on WINS in April 1965 before the station switched to a permanent all-news format.

Relocating to KYA in San Francisco, he became the king of the Bay Area scene. While at Top 40 giant KYA in 1965, he was named America’s #1 disc jockey.

He also introduced a Beatles gig, their final concert at Candlestick Park in San Francisco and worked as the announcer on the NBC music show Hullabaloo.

In 1969, Holliday moved to WWDC in Washington DC to host morning drive radio.

While in the nation’s capital, he transitioned into full-time sports broadcasting, becoming the voice of the University of Maryland Terrapins football and men’s basketball teams.

For more than two decades, Holliday was a major voice on ABC Sports Radio, broadcasting national morning sports reports coast to coast. His assignments included covering five Olympic Games, championship boxing matches, and The Masters golf tournament.

Holliday has appeared in more than 30 regional and summer stock musical theatre productions, including 42nd Street and The Music Man.
