Drummer John Ford and Bassist Richard Hudson left The Strawbs in 1973 to form their own band, with Hud moving to guitar.
The pair – who had been the prime songwriters in the Strawbs – were joined by Chris Parren on keyboards, Mickey Keen on guitars, and Gerry Conway on drums.
The group enjoyed three British hit singles – Pick Up The Pieces, Burn Baby Burn and Floating In The Wind – with music ranging from soft rock to glam, without ever wholly forgetting their electric folk background.
Their debut album, Nickelodeon, was released on A&M in 1973.
Conway left in May 1974, prior to the recording of the group’s second album Free Spirit, and was replaced by Ken Laws.
Mickey Keen left the band in December 1974 and was replaced briefly by Mick Clarke, formerly of The Roy Young Band. Clarke moved to the United States in 1975 and was not replaced.
The line-up remained stable from that point until the group dissolved in late 1977, primarily so Hud and John could concentrate on songwriting.
Drummer Ken Laws died in March 2007 after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. Guitarist Mickey Keen died in 2008 following a battle with cancer.
