Young Harry Holdsworth (Gareth Parrington) inherits a superintelligent talking macaw named Madison (voiced by Anthony Asbury) from his recently deceased Great Uncle George in America.
Wise-cracking, fast-talking “Mad” is a computer whizz, and a chess ace who can also sing, dance, tell jokes, do impressions and play the piano.
This leads to numerous adventures for Harry and his family – and Harry’s best friend Jo (Nadia Williams) – but it also attracts villainous Terry Crumm (Mark Billingham), who wants the parrot for himself.
The third series replaced Harry with Hattie and Jools, who – like Harry – were kept entertained by Mad’s antics.
Harry’s parents (Jackie Lye and Mike Walling) now ran a hotel called the Madison Guest House, and every week lots of different people were caught up in Mad’s antics.
Guest stars included Colin Baker, Michaela Strachan, Dave Lee Travis and Steve Davis.
Harry returned for the fourth and final series.
The series was adapted from a novel by Dick King-Smith. Madison was played by two parrots named Jewel and Josephine.
