Hansel and Gretel (1987) – Nostalgia Central

Woodcutter’s children Hansel (Hugh Pollard from Simon and the Witch) and Gretel (future EastEnders and Emmerdale star Nicola Stapleton) are sent into the woods to pick berries by their cruel mother (Emily Richard).

Straying from the “safe” woods to the forbidden North Woods, they stumble across the gingerbread house of a witch named Griselda (Cloris Leachman), who likes nothing better than eating children!

Based on the fairy tale by The Brothers Grimm.

Hansel and Gretel was shot simultaneously with Sleeping Beauty (1987) on location in Israel, with the two crews often competing for equipment, costumes and sets.
