Fun House – Nostalgia Central

1 9 8 9 – 1 9 9 9 (UK)
145 x 25 minute episodes

This ITV game show for kids – a British version of the American game show Fox’s Fun House – was produced by Scottish Television and hosted by DJ Pat Sharp and his mullet, assisted by 17-year-old twin blonde cheerleaders Melanie and Martina Grant. Gary King was the Announcer.

The game was played on a massive £250,000 set. Each week, young contestants battled it out in a series of games combining speed, agility, and general knowledge.

During the early rounds, team members took turns answering questions and competing in slapstick games, inevitably involving messy gunge.

The teams then competed in a Fun Kart Grand Prix, racing around the house in go-karts, picking up bonus points.

The team that accumulated the most points across all the rounds went on to take on the Fun House itself – with areas named the Lava Swamp, the Balloon Tree, the Weather Box, the Slalom, the Pumping Pistons, the Lava Slide, the Engine Room etc  –  taking turns to race through it in two minutes, picking up fabulous prizes such as holidays, clothes, bikes, TVs and audio equipment, or sports gear.

Health and Safety would have conniptions these days!
