This Australian children’s TV series from Channel 9 in Perth was based on a book by Joan Ambrose and filmed on Rottnest Island in Western Australia.

Life was great for the kids on Falcon Island – 11-year-old Paul (Greg Duffy), 10-year-old Jock (Justin Hollyock) and Paul’s little sister, Kate (Francesca Shoesmith).

They could go swimming, fishing or skin diving any time they pleased.

They could ride their bikes to school, and afterwards, there was plenty of time to take out their dinghy (Urchin) and go hunting for the wreck of the Golden Falcon, a Dutch galleon from the 17th century, which everyone knew was out there somewhere.

The only blot on the horizon was the local baddie called Mr Brady (Alan Cassell), a landowner who appeared to be up to no good (he was, in fact, conspiring with Madden (Bill Kerr) and Jarvis (Barrie Barkla) to establish a sand mining company on the beach).

The three kids were often helped in their detective work by crayfisherman Vim Van Dorn (Bevan Lee), who had a boat called the Mindy.

The series was sold overseas and aired in the UK and France during the 1980s.
