Dropbears – Nostalgia Central

Sydney (Australia) band Dropbears formed in Darlinghurst in 1981.

In 1982, they released the singles Fun Loving and Lay Him Down, both of which peaked at #1 on the Sydney Indie charts. The following year, the band signed to WEA Records and went on to release a series of successful singles.

Shall We Go (1984) and In Your Eyes (1985) were well received, and negotiations had begun for British and American record releases when bassist Phil Hall decided to leave the group and head off to England in pursuit of new musical experiences.

Frontman Johnny Batchelor continued recording for WEA, releasing the single Work and Save in October 1986.

After an extended break from music, Johnny released the Best Friend Ever EP in 2007 (which includes a striking cover of Bacharach’s Anyone Who Had a Heart), followed by the singles Devil and Falling Down.

Batchelor continues to write and record.
