This syndicated American drama series re-enacted famous newspaper stories from the past in semi-documentary style.

The show had a gritty, hard-boiled atmosphere, often focusing on violent action and sordid crimes such as murder, extortion, and racketeering.

Each episode began with host and narrator Paul Stewart sitting on the edge of a desk in a bustling, smoke-filled newspaper city room. Stewart occasionally starred in the episodes himself.

Other actors who appeared in the 39 half-hour episodes included Telly Savalas, Gale Garnett, Diane Ladd, Peter Falk, George Maharis, Al Lewis and Christopher Walken (as Ronnie Walken).

For over 50 years, Deadline was considered “lost,” until the original masters were discovered in a New Jersey garage. In November 2019, all 39 episodes were restored and released on DVD.
