In the early 1970s, naive Danny Jones (Len Jones) lives alone with his widowed father in the quiet calm of the Welsh foothills, where they work together doing odd jobs as jobbing builders.
Danny turns 17 with a desire to break away from the strict influence of his father and is encouraged in this endeavour by two posh 18-year-old girls from the Austin-Hobbs School for Young Ladies (a local boarding school), who he meets while doing some repair work – sophisticated, self-assured Sue (future Blue Peter presenter Jenny Hanley) and short and dumpy Angie (Jane Carr).
Although Danny has his eyes on Sue, he is seduced by Angie. His father doesn’t trust the girl and urges Danny to sow his wild oats elsewhere – even offering him a five-pound note for a “proper prostitute”.
It’s an unappealing film but Finlay and Len Jones work well together and there are some nice performances from the others.
