This 12-part BBC2 drama series, set in local government, was written by Phil Redmond, creator of the highly successful Grange Hill.
Recent county council elections have left the balance of power delicately poised – the Liberals, led by Sir Michael Gunther (Walter Gotell), have won a narrow victory and can take the reins only with the cooperation of a coalition including the Rate Payers Alliance and a few independents.
The central character is local jobbing builder Eddie Morgan (Ian Redford), a newly-elected councillor who only wanted to get on the council to keep his kids’ school open, and neither he nor his wife Pamela (Alison Hughes) ever thought that he’d actually win.
Now, he suddenly finds himself plotting and planning political strategy with Mr Big, while Pamela would much rather see him direct all his energies into his firm.
Location shooting took place over two weeks in Hertford
