This syndicated drama was set in Washington DC and dramatised the stories behind the Fifth Amendment, which provides protections for American citizens in legal proceedings, including the right to a grand jury for capital crimes, prohibition of double jeopardy, protection against self-incrimination (“taking the fifth”), and the right to due process.

Episodes depicted the activities of a team of US government investigators as they sought to uncover evidence for congressional hearings and took on loan sharks, racketeers, smugglers, kidnappers, blackmailers, narcotics dealers, gunrunners, bootleggers, gambling syndicates and other elements of organised crime
