Based on the popular Waddingtons board game of the same name, this Granada TV game show featured six suspects in six rooms, with six different weapons.

Mrs Elizabeth Peacock was a wealthy widow living at her mansion, Arlington Grange (shot on location at the 17th-century Arley Hall in Cheshire) with her stepdaughter, the seductive Miss Vivienne Scarlet, and her faithful maid, Mrs Blanche White.

Every weekend, she invited her best friends to visit – Colonel Mike Mustard, Professor Peter Plum, Reverend Johnathan Green. Someone new would also attend, and everyone would have a motive of sorts to kill them.

The six key characters were played throughout the four series by stars including Dynasty‘s Stephanie Beacham, Rula Lenska (Rock Follies), Susan George, Joanna Lumley, Koo Stark, Mick Jagger‘s former squeeze Jerry Hall, June Whitfield, Mollie Sugden, Lewis Collins, Leslie Grantham, David McCallum, former Dr Who Tom Baker, Robin Nedwell, Richard Wilson and Nicholas Parsons.

Two teams of celebrity guests in the studio then had to cross-examine the characters and deduce who the murderer was and which weapon they had used.

A veritable Who’s Who from British television and film appeared as guests on the show, including Joan Sims, Ian Lavender, Derek Nimmo, Toyah Wilcox, Oliver Tobias, Edward Fox, Ned Sherrin, Keith Barron, Chris Packham, Richard O’Brien, Nick Berry, Andrew Sachs, Maggie Philbin, Keith Chegwin, Amanda Barrie, Dickie Davies, Valerie Singleton, Una Stubbs, Edwina Currie, Carol Vorderman, Johnny Ball, Dudley Sutton, Neil Morrissey, Jenny Agutter, Russell Grant, Nerys Hughes and Carol Thatcher.

The show was presented in the first series by James Bellini, then hosted by Chris Tarrant, and later, Richard Madeley.

The Australian Nine Network produced 25 episodes of a local version presented by Ian McFadyen in 1992 and 1993.
