Captain Nuke and the Bomber Boys (1995) – Nostalgia Central

Written and directed by Charles Gale and produced by B-movie legend Roger Corman, Captain Nuke and the Bomber Boys (also released under the alternative title Demolition Day) tells a wild, satirical story about three teenagers who inadvertently hold the world hostage.

Slug (Ryan Thomas Johnson), Mickey (Joshua Schaefer), and Frank (Michael Bower) run away to a secret hideout to escape their angry parents. While hiding, they happen across a live atomic bomb.

Christening themselves “Captain Nuke and the Bomber Boys,” they decide against turning the weapon in and use it instead as leverage to hoodwink the FBI and contact the President of the United States (Rod Steiger) with a single, highly unusual demand: cancel school forever.

What starts as a schoolboy prank quickly spins out of control when Joey and Brenda Franelli (Joe Mantegna and Joanna Pacula) – a pair of penniless, sad-sack hoodlums – steal the nuclear device for their own financial gain, turning a mischievous stunt into a very real, chaotic threat against the city of Los Angeles.

Martin Sheen is Jeff Snyder, the hapless FBI agent trying to manage the bizarre crisis. Joe Piscopo has a cameo role as annoying principal, Mr Wareman.
