Debuting in August 1999, this weekday-morning children’s series on Channel 5 starred a pert, eternally-smiley young girl named Jenny (played by Casey-Lee Jolleys, from the BBC kids’ series Gruey) and was set aboard the Beachcomber, a boat owned by her (unseen) uncle, Captain Bob.

She was joined by puppet characters including Salty Dog, Bertha the ship’s cat (a bossy northerner), Sam the seagull, Colin the cod, and Mr and Mrs Sludge (two sub-aqua creatures who lurked in the bilge of the boat).

Spike and Marlon were the ship’s rats.

The filmed educational inserts were shot in and around the Torbay region of South Devon (Torquay, Paignton, and Brixham).
