Parlour Game, The – Nostalgia Central

1 9 8 5 – 1 9 8 8 (UK)
30 minute episodes

Produced by TVS from their Maidstone studios (and broadcast only in the TVS region), The Parlour Game was devised by Gyles Brandreth and hosted by Birmingham comedian Dave Ismay.

Filmed before a studio audience, two teams of three celebrities competed in traditional old-fashioned parlour games that our grandparents and their parents played before the advent of television – such as that golden classic “I Love My Love With an A” (!) or singing the words of a boring text (an instruction manual or the American Constitution, for example) to familiar tunes which the other team members must guess.

The teams were captained by Liza Goddard and Alfred Marks.

Celebrity competitors included Patricia Hayes, Arthur Mullard, Hugh Laurie, singer Patti Boulaye, Bonnie Langford, Tommy Boyd, Mike Nolan and Cheryl Baker from Bucks Fizz, newsreader Peter Woods, Barbara Kelly, Brian Cant, and Charlie Chester.
