That Show (The Joan Rivers Show) – Nostalgia Central

1 9 6 8 – 1 9 6 9 (USA)
30 minute episodes

Debuting in September 1968, this daily half-hour syndicated talk show was produced by the Trans Lux Television Corporation and hosted by comedienne Joan Rivers, who introduced a different theme – primarily of interest to female viewers – on each show.

Subjects ranged from hairdressing, diet and interior decorating to nudism and natural childbirth, and themes such as “Can a woman travel alone abroad?”, “Should women stay out of politics?”, and “What should a woman know about automobile repairs?”

Shot on a living room set in the studio and broadcast Monday through Friday from New York, each show featured a celebrity guest and an expert in the subject.

Her guests in the first week included Johnny Carson, Don Rickles, Joel Grey, Vidal Sassoon and Jerry Lewis.

Subsequent guests included Ed Sullivan, Barbara Walters, Florence Henderson, Jack Cassidy, Nancy Walker, Soupy Sales, Dick Cavett, Tony Randall, Steve Lawrence, Rodney Dangerfield, Rita Moreno, Lily Tomlin, Donald Pleasence, Ed McMahon, Arthur Godfrey, Bill Cullen, Robert Wagner, George Segal, Morey Amsterdam, Otto Preminger, Peter Lawford, Jim Backus, Bob Crane, and Dionne Warwick.

Although officially titled That Show, most stations advertised and promoted it as The Joan Rivers Show. The show was produced by Rivers’ husband, Edgar Rosenberg.
