Pete Dunville (Richard Ruccolo), Michael “Berg” Bergen (Ryan Reynolds) and Sharon Carter (Traylor Howard) were friends who had attended Cambridge High School together.

Pete (an architecture student) and Berg (a medical student) now shared an apartment in Boston and worked part-time at Beacon Street Pizza at 228 Beacon Street for crusty pizzeria owner, Bill (Julius Carry).

Sharon was a salesgirl for the Immaculate Chemicals Company and the guys’ upstairs neighbour.

Pete worked as a sportscaster on the college radio station WMFO (91.5 FM) and also held jobs as a limo driver and as a career counsellor at the Boston Metro Employment Agency.

Berg interned at Boston Memorial Hospital. He was afraid of moths and cried when he watched the film Bambi.

The three friends regularly frequented Mahoney’s Bar.

Other regular characters included Pete’s first season girlfriend, Melissa (Jennifer Westfeldt); Berg’s fellow medical student, Ashley Walker (Suzanne Cryer) who dated Pete; Johnny Donnelly (Nathan Fillion), a repairman who was romantically involved with Sharon (they married in the final season); the eccentric pizzeria patron Mr Bauer (David Ogden Stiers) who constantly confused movies and his real life; and Berg’s beautiful, recently divorced mother, Susan (Bo Derek) who had a fling with Pete.

Berg eventually became a doctor while Pete became a fireman, working alongside the gorgeous Marti (Tiffani Thiessen). Felix Shaw (Victor Raider-Wexler) was the fire chief.

By season three, the premise of the pizza place was abandoned entirely, and the show was retitled Two Guys and a Girl.

A fifth season was planned but never materialised. By the time the fourth-season finale aired in May 2001, the show had just been cancelled due to low ratings.
