Daly at Night – Nostalgia Central

This Australian late-night interview and variety show, hosted by American comedian-turned-compere Jonathan Daly, was broadcast live-to-air three times a week by HSV-7 from the Fitzroy Teletheatre in Melbourne.

Premiering at 10.30 pm on Wednesday 7 March 1962, the show was also seen on Thursday and Friday nights at the same time.

Daly was joined by Vikki Hammond, the Horrie Dargie Quintet and various guests. Also seen regularly on the show were actor/critic Frank Thring, Arthur Young, funny woman Betty Bobbit (who was lured from America for the Daly show and ended up staying in Australia and becoming a huge star as Judy Bryant in the hit TV show Prisoner: Cell Block H), Kitty Bluett, football commentator Lou Richards, and cartoonist John Frith.

The final show was broadcast on Friday 29 March 1963. Daly went home to the US but returned with his comedy partner, Ken Delo, for the HSV-7 production The Delo & Daly Show in 1963.

The final Delo & Daly Show aired on 26 August 1964, and Ken and Jonathan returned to the US soon after.
