Lorraine Silver – Nostalgia Central

Born in 1951, Lorraine Silver began singing at the age of five, eventually performing in youth club shows and winning numerous talent contests.

She was just 13 and attending Kingsbury County Grammar when she entered the Woolworths store in London’s Oxford Street in 1965. popped two shillings into a “Make-Your-Own-Disc” recording booth and sang an a cappella version of Brian Hyland‘s Sealed with a Kiss.

She took the acetate to Pye Records’ London offices and asked if someone would listen to it.

Two months later, she received a letter from Tony Reeves of Pye’s A&R department, asking her to attend an audition, which resulted in a recording contract and her debut single – an uptempo rendition of the Shelley Fabares hit Lost Summer Love.

Despite receiving frequent airplay on Radio Luxembourg, the single failed to chart; however, it went on to become a club classic and a monster hit on the Northern Soul scene.

Lorraine toured as a member of the vocal group Mixed Feelings during much of the 1980s and regularly appeared at Northern Soul weekends.

In the 21st century, she toured the UK with the Edwin Starr Band and released the single Standing at the Intersection in January 2018.

In 2020, Lorraine toured with British Northern Soul band The Signatures in a show titled The Music of Northern Soul Live. She released a new single – Fever Raging Out Of Control – in 2021 and continues to perform live.
