Mick Flinn had been a member of the Australian band The Mixtures from 1967 to 1972. The group scored consecutive #1 songs in Australia in 1970 with a cover of the Mungo Jerry single In the Summertime and The Pushbike Song (essentially In the Summertime with similar but different lyrics) and eventually relocated to England.
In Britain, Flinn formed The Springfield Revival with Ray Martin and Donna Jones. The group appeared extensively on British TV, toured the world with The Osmonds and performed at the 45th Academy Awards in Hollywood in 1973.
Flinn and Jones then created Pussyfoot as a recording act, with Jones performing (ostensibly as a solo artist) and Flinn managing, producing and working behind the scenes.
The single The Way That You Do It was released in June 1975 and attracted public attention when its suggestive lyrics led to it being banned by the BBC. The song was re-released under the title Ooh Na Na Hiya in 1976, but it did not chart.
Australian music television show Countdown began playing the video clip, and exploited the British ban on playing the song.
The song was released as a single by EMI Australia in 1976 and spent seven weeks at #1 on the singles chart there, becoming the second-highest single in Australia in 1977.
The single Ooh Ja Ja was released in Australia in 1977 and peaked at #20. Pussyfoot toured Australia in April 1977, promoting their debut studio album, Pussyfootin’ Round . . . With Love.
Pussyfoot released a second studio album in 1978, featuring the singles A Night to Remember and Dancer Dance, before calling it a day.
Donna Jones and Mick Flinn both eventually ended up in a later incarnation of The New Seekers.
