Letty Boot (Victoria O’Keefe) is a wheelchair bound teenager who lives in Meadowbank Children’s Home – run by by James Forsyth (Brian Croucher) and his wife, Margaret (Alison Forsyth), affectionately known as Uncle and Auntie respectively – along with her friends Brian (Josh Elwell), Trevor (Marc Barfoot) and Cath (Deborah Smith).
Following a spate of robberies at Meadowbank (including the theft of a goldfish, a Duran Duran record and some rollerskates), Letty sets up the Letty Bootlace Detective Agency (inspired by the TV detective Shoestring) and is soon investigating dangerous horse thieves and criminals running an illegal immigrant ring (with Jamie Foreman and Billy Murray flexing their trademark Cockney villain muscles).
Taking the law into her own hands, she soon rouses the attention of Inspector Jones (Glynn Edwards) and the pair struggle to see eye to eye at times, but gradually a level of respect builds between the two.
The series was based on a children’s novel by Avril Rowlands.
